A Q&A with Max Coates

Q&A Blog

For 2017 Clements Limited have sponsored Renault UK Clio Cup racing driver Max Coates who last weekend took to the track for the final time of the season.  Aboard his Ciceley Motorsport Clio Cup racer he has achieved two wins and a further four podium finishes making it a very successful season. We sat down with Max to discuss his highlights from the year.

Reflecting back on the season, what have been your highlights?

I think three events stand out for me, Donington, Croft and Rockingham.  We all but had a double victory at Donington, the second one was taken off me in post-race judicial procedures after other drivers were re-instated, but we showed amazing pace and were at the sharp end all weekend.  It was also a really difficult weekend with a big crash for another driver in the F4 race.  I had lots of guests there from Harron Homes, Clements Limited and Primex Plastics so to share the drama with them was exciting.  Croft is always great for me, racing at your home track is always special.  My second race was so much fun and with 150 guests it was a real buzz.  Rockingham was a highlight for the results, we had a double pole position (1st position in qualifying) which is a real achievement and the first time I’ve done that.  We also won a race in commanding style which was awesome.  The second race didn’t go to plan but I had lots of fun overtaking drivers after an early mistake.

What’s it been like working with Clements?

Clements have been great to work with both at the track and away from it.  Their involvement helps to get me on the grid first and foremost and it’s enabled me to increase my pre-season testing and personnel within my team.  Away from the track I’ve worked with Clements to develop a range of merchandise, their involvement has made the process and end result far better than ever before.  It was easy, communication was excellent and the garments and products we have produced have been second to none.  A special thanks has to go to Alannah who was very influential in putting everything together.  We also put together one of the most striking liveries in the Clio Cup, the car looks fantastic close up and is easily seen from a distance when it’s going around the track.  The whole aesthetic of the team has been improved and it’s all thanks to Clements involvement.

What’s your favourite piece of merchandise in your range?

Definitely the foam fingers… they double up as a great seat on the grassy banks when your watching the BTCC and are just great fun!

As a company we would like to firstly congratulate Max on a great season, Max has produced some great results when the pressure was on. Secondly we would like to thank Max for his continued support to us as a company. Below are a few of the best photos taken throughout the season.
