Environment designed by Formation, Japan
The first Asics Flagship store outside of Japan is a breakthrough in the sports retail experience and includes state-of-the-art design in a unique environment.
The concept store showcases a breathtaking blend of Japanese minimalism and high technology, created by Tokyo-based designers, Formation Inc.
In keeping with Asics’ reputation as leaders in innovation, the store houses a number of advanced features. These include two permanent GAIT assessment areas which help customers choose the perfect footwear to suit their running or walking style. An all-new high-tech 3D foot scan system which employs laser beams and cameras to map each foot individually. The measurements are then uploaded to a huge database of foot shapes and sizes in order to find the perfect pair of trainers.
Key Design Features:
- Specialist bronze shop front with 3D illuminated logo
- Sculptured floating raft ceiling
- Sweeping curved staircase
- Mirror light box wall
- Feature “Inner Muscle” wall
- “Blue Wave” merchandising system
- Integration of polished and brushed stainless steel throughout the store
The Asics store is located in the old Dickins & Jones building which fronts both Regent Street and Argyll Street in London. The site was presented to us in a raw, unfinished state and at the time of access Bovis was still carrying out significant core and shell works throughout the building. Clements Retail became the ‘eyes and ears’ for the designer as regular site meetings were financially prohibitive.
Clements Retail worked with Formation on a number of projects prior to the Asics store and our relationship has developed and evolved despite the geographical distance between our companies. Designer, Masayo Takeichi describes Clements Retail as “Our most important partner for all projects in Europe because of their ability to interpret our design intent drawings and to constantly offer value engineering refinements.”
