Environment designed by Wanda Creative

Situated within the Western Concourse of the new Kings Cross Development, Watermark Books is located in a grade two listed conservation area amongst a diverse range of eclectic stores, food ‘clusters’, independent shops and boutiques.

This area forms part of 500,000 sq ft of retail space being developed at Kings Cross where historic buildings and structures including the Great Northern Hotel, the Granary Complex and the Coal Drops are all being refurbished and given new uses. The new Watermark Bookstore at King’s Cross is UK-specific interpretation of the Watermark Bookstore concept, which was originally adapted specifically to the travel retail market at Sydney Airport (Terminal 3).

The Watermark Bookstore concept brings a new approach to book retailing that aligns well with the new and transformed King’s Cross station experience with shopping that’s on the way, not in the way. Designed by Wanda Creative, the brief was “to develop a fresh and current bookstore concept for the travel retail environment”.

The concept had to be sympathetic to the demands and heritage of the Kings Cross listed building development. Clear sight lines, durable robust materials and finishes combine to create a comfortable retail experience and convey the complete offer immediately to the transitory customer whose time to dwell is limited.

Clements was appointed to manage the full turnkey installation by Wanda Creative and the store opened to the public at the beginning of March 2012.
